Simply roll over a date to learn more about the history of Prime Choice Foods.
Our story begins in 1946 when 22-year-old Juan Gomez, father of Jose Gomez, bought a small market in Los Angeles, California. There Juan began to offer and manufacture authentic Mexican foods; such as sweet breads, traditional style meats, fresh seasonings, tortillas and fresh fruits.
In 2000 Jose Gomez sees a need to expand the growing business and decides to open the families first location on the East Coast. He would spend the better part of the year retrofitting and bringing the plant up to date.
Jose Gomez with the blessing of his father Juan M. Gomez, ventures off on his own to open a corn tortilla company. Two Years later he would sell his company and go to work for his father law Mauro Robles.
Over the next 5 years Prime Choice Foods enjoyed a period of solid growth and the construction of additional manufacturing space and purchased an 8 acre site with 77,000 sq ft. of warehouse and office space which would turn into the company’s Corporate Offices and Distribution facility.
The company had rapidly expanded to 4 manufacturing locations and numerous distribution routes. Service had grown from California to over 30 states west of the Mississippi.
In September 1950, Mauro Robles father of Marina Robles Gomez would learn the art of making corn tortillas from his soon to be father in law. This knowledge would be taken by Mauro to start one of the most successful tortilla companies in the world .
The business had continued to diversify, opening restaurants and growing its portfolio in foods.
